In “The Ballad of East and West” Kipling wrote “Oh, East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet…” He might have been talking about the intersection of the advertising, PR and marketing industries and the academy of higher education. For the most part, academics and industry pros don’t “get” each other. I recently wrote a discussion paper where I noted, “Academics take what the industry folks (like my former boss who coined the term) see as a ‘blinding glimpse of the obvious’ and run stats on it.” While it is good to have this type of scientific confirmation, there has to be more effort put forth by both parties to find ways to work together. That’s the purpose of this blog. I will post articles and how-tos to bridge the divide. I look forward to your input as we work toward a new kind of convergence!
